Bram Stoker의 Dracula와 Oscar wilde의 The Picture of Dorian Grayf를 읽고 아주 세밀하게 영역을 좁혀서 두 소설에서 발견된 공통점인 The mirror의 역할을 가지고 서술한 에세이 입니다. 짧지만 디테일한 부분까지 언급하며 고급영어로 영작을 하였고, 교수님께 아주 좋은 평가를 받았습니다.

The mirror reflexes the vanity of human
The mirror reflexes the vanity of human

In terms of writers' view, there are two ways of revealing or expressing the anxiety of period. The first way of revealing the period that is especially the victorian is that writers are not showing the society indirectly, but giving some things to readers that are hidden by their own purpose. So when the readers find out the hidden meaning by looking over the text thoroughly, a feeling of surprise suddenly comes to the readers as if they never had such that experience. Although this is quite abstract, it is also telling on me to write this subject. The second way of expressing the anxiety is to show the period directly, so that the readers could understand what writers are trying to talk about more immensely and specifically than the indirect revelation.
Following the ways that I mentioned above, in Dracula written by Bram Stoker and Oscar Wilde's The picture of Dorian Gray, they are both regarded a mirror as a vehicle for revealing the vanity of human. In Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula, Jonathan Harker says “But there was no reflection of him in the mirror! The whole room behind me was displayed, but there was no sign of a man in it, except myself.”(p57) Dracula does not appear in the mirror which means the real monster is not actually Dracula, but metaphorically the victorian England. When I read this part at first, I though that the mirror is not such that important. Because, sometimes people are quite monolithic, so that they just see some figures as it looks without noticing the real meaning of them like as Dorian Gray who is the protagonist of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray.
